Now I have to get my taxes done and it is NOT going to be a pretty picture

Isn't it silly. Just think how much more money the IRS could get from us if they'd let us use our money all year long and pay only once (rather than quarterly). In effect, the government would be investing "their" money with you at no charge to them. Seems like a "win/win". Maybe they'll pass a special exemption for successful day traders, which allows us to defer our taxes indefinitely until we have a losing quarter.
