Jdaasoc, thanks for the pointer to the RapidIO consortium. I did not know about them.

Article says Clocking in the spec is double-edged, passing data on both the rising and falling edges which would seem to put them in the same boat with Hitachi in conflict with Rambus IP. Yes? No? But the RapidIO swiched fabric seems to have more scope than (mere) Rambus memory interface tech. Interesting that they say they can implement the Rambus protocol on top of their physical layer.

I will have to read their white paper.

P.S.: This hardly belongs in a postscript, but mighty pleased with the split announcement. It had been speculated here, and I thought to myself "a 4-for-1 would be appropriate". Now it is on the horizon, a bit far out, but coming (subject to shareholder approval, blah blah, woof woof).
