Off topic -- Canadian opinion ...

About a dozen years ago I attended an investment seminar where the speaker was strongly suggesting Canadians hold 10% of their assets in U.S. securities. During the break, I asked why 10% was chosen, since I my portfolio was entirely U.S. securities and I was quite happy with its performance. The reply was that holding a large U.S. based percentage was good, and larger was better, but that Canadians are so reluctant to invest in other countries that 10% was chosen as to not scare anyone away from the idea altogether. It seems that the investment dealer needed to make a living and the suggestions were tailored to what would sell more than what was best.

It sounds like things haven't changed much. Tout CSCO: No commission. Tout Nortel: fat paycheque.

Cheers, PW.

Well, they have to drum up support for that huge amount of NT stock that's gonna hit the market.

Consider that part of the campaign.
