EMC vs NTAP like Cisco vs JNPR

Another metric I arrived at by a little interpolation and extrapolation and some Kentucky windage is that EMC has put on about 30B of market cap since Jan00 while NTAP has put on about 15B in market cap for that period. EMC has put on nearly an amount equal to NTAP's total market cap of 35B in that period. Long both of them. Love em both. They are Mr. and Mrs. Gorilla from what I can observe. I think when, probably in April, EMC announces its new line of post Data General EMC designed NAS products they will have equal or superior performance specs to NTAP and we will see a significant spurt in EMC. Market cap of $200B is not far away for EMC IMO and $100B for NTAP is likewise not far away. NTAP will split again in December as it has for the last three Dec's. This partnership with Yahoo will be an immense opportunity for NTAP to discover and probably overcome the issues surrounding scalability of NAS.

Tony,

First off I am not a storage expert, but the market is saying NAS is where the future is and SAN less so. Sure there is a market for both, but all you read about is the technical merits of NAS.

I am SURE this has been discussed here, but this is a MOMO market extraordinaire, and top line growth is what is being rewarded, at any price.

There are many examples....
