GB - <If you were 100% certain Intel would perform better than AMD then you would put all your money into Intel correct?>

Answering for me: It's not that simple.

I'm invested in INTC for the long haul. I buy INTC steadily with a dollar cost averaging scheme. I'm using a chunk of capital that I earmarked for riskier trading strategies for my AMD. Did not liquidate INTC to do this.

AMD to me looks good to me in the near term. So does INTC.

It's called buying the sector.

I believe x86 fundamentals look good this year. AMD is executing at the moment. Both will do fairly well IMO.

Hope that makes my position clear as mud.

PB

Re: "If you were 100% certain Intel would perform better than AMD then you would put all your money into Intel correct? Therefore, irrespective of the overall market, you have some degree of uncertainty about relative performances that leads you to back both companies. Admit it. An investment in AMD may well outperform one in Intel over the next six months"

Gopher, I'm never 100% certain about anything. Who is? I have substantial holdings in Intel and I add to that occassionally. I try to diversify. Don't you? I'm not trying to hide anything. An investment in AMD MAY outperform Intel over the next 6 months and if I thought there was little or no chance of that I wouldn't invest in it. Isn't that obvious? Haven't you ever been persuaded to change your mind? I have.
