<<The poster on this Board I believe was "right on" that expressed the view that Kwait and the Saudis may be trying to embarrass the Clinton- Gore Admin. and work for the election of George Jr. as payback for Pres. Bush's role in the Gulf war.>>

Interesting theory. Could be a factor among many.

That sub-committee hearing was interesting. All the politicians were grandstanding for their constituents. Few showed any inclination to leave the market alone. Everyone was calling for a "policy" fix to ensure domestic self sufficiency. Several were pushing for corn/ethanol subsidies. None seem to remember the wonderful projects spawned by the DOE to date ... windmills ... shale oil ...etc..

Last I knew you do not drill for oil with policies. It almost seemed as though they believe that with the right policy, our new high tech world can create new oil fields whenever and wherever they are needed.

One speaker berated the administration for not warning of the coming increase in oil prices. Huh? If they knew oil prices were due to triple I suppose they should have bought a few trillion dollars worth at $11 to make available to us on the cheap now ... Mmmmm? They were really thrashing around looking for some one to blame.

As I recall. for all the obvious factors looming on the horizon January a year ago, all the poobahs in and out of government and private enterprise were each consoling the other that energy prices would again collapse.

Next thing you know, one of those committee members will discover this thread and we will all be in trouble for not having warned them a year ago. BigBull and Slider will be hauled off to jail for not warning all the people in Washington in a timely way.
