Yougang - <Reply from Toni @ AMD IR re x-box:>

Ithink that was a bunch of bull.

AMd would have taken that business in a heart beat.

Why are they developing Spitfire if NOT to compete in the lower end device space.

They didn't get the contract. That simple.

PB

Yougang, <AMD's expectation of reaching
$1 billion revenue in each quarter of this year>

I don't believe we have heard 1bn per Q as an expectation from AMD before? This comes from Toni, so I guess it is well considered and official guidance.

Thanks for that post.

Crux of the matter:
"This development does not change AMD's expectation of reaching $1 billion revenue in each quarter of this year..."

And away we go....

Yougang - RE: "Reply from Toni @ AMD IR re x-box:"

Thanks for posting that over here.

Today we took a hit but its not like the end is coming for AMD...

Expected upcoming news from AMD:

* Great Q1 earnings
* Initial shipments from Dresden
* Thunderbird
* Spitfire
* Sale of communications division
* DDR and 266MHz fsb capable chipsets
* 2-way Athlon chipsets
* Mustang
* Mobile Athlon chips

Am I forgeting anything?

And we should be focused on what the outlook for Q2 is.

"This development does not change AMD's expectation of reaching $1 billion revenue in each quarter of this year, nor does itchange our goal of reaching 30% unit market share by the end of 2001."

The IR guy wouldn't say this unless it appeared very likely they were heading for a $1 billion Q1. Forget the X-box and the crummy profits therefrom. Use Dresden capacity to make high-margin CPU's. Intel needed X-box not because it wanted the sales but because they wanted to try and deny AMD a firm foothold in America's living rooms and minds.
