it supposedly shows excess interest in the stock that has not been adjusted for by the MMs. If it lasts more than a few minutes...something is up with the MM. I have learned to avoid BB stocks. Expensive lesson in my youth.

The length of time with which a stock stays locked or crossed is directly proportional to the activity in that stock and therein, the likelihood that someone will try to make the quick buck arbitrage opportunity that it holds. In the OTCBB or the Pinks, stocks could conceivably be and stay locked or crossed for hours or days with only the market makers in those stocks bringing the market back to normal.
