You would think so (i.e. Q included in the SP500). However several had said on the JDSU thread awhile back that Q was not included. I have never researched that. If Q IS in the SP500 then these moves are disconnected. Both happened at 1:30pm though. Same time.

Those who have been in the Q longer than the last few months (when a lot of momentum players jumped in) know that Q is in fact on the S&P 500 list. And they have been on the list since July.

The discussions on this thread have sure turned towards the momentum side of the market! Perhaps that is due to the nosebleed levels of the Naz. I think it becomes difficult to justify spending time evaluating fundamentals of a company when huge sums of money can easily be made by buying your choice of the Lindy 25 portfolio :0)!!

Long and holding,
Sir Chartmeister

The stock that is NOT included in the S&P 500 is

Symbol Name
Q QWest Communications

Not to be confused with

Symbol Name
QCOM QUALCOMM

If you read your QCOM annual report you'd know that QCOM entered the S&P 500 last year and they were quite proud of the fact and highlighted it.

Maybe if everyone stopped referring to Qualcomm as "Q" things would be less confusing.

I apologize if you've already received multiple answers re the composition of the SP500--I'm trying to catch up on two days of posts!

In any case, Qualcomm is already in the SP500. Here's a link to the complete list:
