WHY ? why has Go2net been a laggard ? Why ?

if someone wants to earn the gold star award please explain it, because I can not figure it out, and I have been trying to for about ten months now.

I will give it a try.

1. Name. go2net name is not distinctive, sexy at all. yahoo, altavista are much better names, of course. also there are a lot of confusions, goto.com, go.com.

2. Model. Go2net basically aligns itself with small players, 2nd-tier, or 3rd-tier players. they are cheaper, but so are returns.

3. Strategy. Go2net is focused on profit too early at this critical category-forming stage. they should spend big to grab something big before someone else grabs it. The current small profit is not good, since it means later it will get less profit. It is analogous to raise pig, at early stage, you want it to have big skeleton first, then meat later, instead of otherwise. I think Go2net is focusing on meat too early too soon, it will miss up huge later.

4. Relation with Wall Street. Mediocre at best. This is a game Wall Street set the rules, even though you hate these, if you want to play, follow the rules. Pay up and up it goes, or just shut up to become 2nd-tier, or 3-rd tier. PPRO realized that by paying up in its secondary.
