the last one that went up the east coast was twice as big as Andrew

Keep in mind that Andrew was powerful, but small as hurricanes go..

Here's an sea surface temperature anomaly map from a few days ago:

Looks like the Gulf of Mexico has temperatures above normal, while the temperatures on the rest of the Atlantic are roughly normal.
