Like I've said before, why not spin-off McData? Seems to me that it would expand the customer base for McData. Kind of like when Pepsi was losing fountain sales to Coca-Cola because Pepsi was buying up fast food chains. Buying those fast food chains put Pepsi in direct competition with their potential customers.

If you compete with EMC, do you want to buy switches from McData? Probably not. You'd go to Brocade or another supplier. Unless the technology that McData had was so advanced that you had no choice. The only reason I don't see urgency to spin-off McData is that they already have the most dominant player (parent company EMC) locked up.
