My reply in two parts Perry...

What I'll do is reply before I read further than the first paragraph in your post, which, I've already read obviously.

Part #1

Alcatel and ST Microelectronics, who used to be Thompson, have been in bed with one another for a long time from what I've seen.

Part #2

A question would be if TI would have done the deal with it's DSP, or if ADI would have with their Sharc DSP? Someone that knows DSPs might comment on the ST DSP and how it compares to what's available on the market.

In the following clip from the PR. What are the "other leading edge technologies"??

Alcatel will embed this core in a variety of system-on-chip solutions for digital subscriber line (DSL), Voice-over-Internet Protocol and other leading-edge technologies.

If I were an Alcatel investor I'd wonder if that is good news or not. But, as far as AWRE being indirectly involved...I don't know. My guess is no, unless ST has a deal with AWRE to license AWRE technology to others, if so, why wouldn't Alcatel license straight from AWRE. That alone may be a very important question, why doesn't Alcatel license with AWRE? Maybe we see where the line is drawn in the sand in the battle for ADSL.
