RE: On the other hand, AMD can use their resources to build processors which sell for more than the cost of an x-box. ;^)))

Great message Scumbria. I think this whole point was lost on AMD traders today. I'm sure this same idea has been posted today, cause I sure meant to do it. The only thing AMD would have gained from that X-Box thing was PR. It doesn't affect anything AMD has done to date to gain market share.
The money to be gained on X-Box for the chip maker is miniscule. Now Paulie is bragging cause they got a low, low end chip contract (by next years market anyway). Wow, the things those *ntel guys grasp at for straws.

I consider your comments to be the most logical so far re. the whole x-box subject. Bragging rights on a 1G CPU that you can order the next day from Gateway or Compaq makes sense, but bragging rights on a product 1 1/2 yrs. out, that you make little/no $ on, is stealth PR, IMHO.
Very thoughtful comments as usual, Scumbria

Scumbria - <Q. If Microsoft sells a box for $150, including DVD and an 8 GB disk, how much profit does the CPU manufacturer make?>

x more than the competitor that didn't get the contract.

A. Nothing, but at least they avoid facing a second embarassing loss to AMD in one week.
On the other hand, AMD can use their resources to build processors which sell for more than the cost of an x-box. ;^)))"

I'm sure you would be touting AMD's LOW MANUFACTURING costs and LARGE WAFER FAB capacity as reasons for AMD to make a small fortune on X-BOX CPUs had AMD won the contract !!

Whine, on SCUMbria !!

Those Sour Grapes are really making you Pucker Up !
