FOCUS - Toothpaste Giant hopes to squeeze out profit from the Web.

Cincinnati, Ohio., March 10 (Routers) - In a stunning response to critics of its "old economy" marketing methods, consumer giant Procter and Gamble(NYSE:PG - news) on Friday announced it will sell its Crest brand of toothpaste directly over the Internet. Procter and Gamble whose shares fell by nearly 40% this past week on an unexpected profit warning, hurriedly launched crest.com in an obvious effort to placate Wall Street Analysts who have criticized the company for its huge profits and excessive cash flow.

Procter and Gamble spokesperson Dottie Kahlm assured analysts on a conference call held this evening that P&G expects its new Internet marketing strategy will drastically lower its gross margins to levels achieved by Internet giant Amazon.com. Procter and Gamble expects to lose $10 for every box of Crest is sells over the Internet.

Analyst cheered the company's decisive action and called for the stock to triple on Monday.
