Savant, Great Find! I am posting an excerpt from the article with emphasis plus my 2 cents opinion below:timesrecord.com ------------------------- >>"Transmitting sound Another technological innovation, made by American Technology Corp. of San Diego, Calif., that will soon become reality is a way of broadcasting messages and sound aboard ship. HyperSonic Sound transmits sound on a frequency you can?t hear unless you are in the direct path of the speaker, or where it bounces off a surface. The sound system penetrates even the noisiest areas , such as the deck of an aircraft carrier when jet engines are gearing up. The tone sounds the same next to the speaker or 100 feet away.BIW plans to install speakers the size and weight of empty compact disc cases throughout an Aegis destroyer. Instead of the brackets and supports required by normal speakers, these will be glued to bulkheads."These are lightweight, easier to install, have no maintenance, are cheaper to buy and they have better performance," Winter said. "It's safe to say that the next destroyer to leave BIW will have some exotic technology on board that is our technology," he said. Many of the technologies BIW is integrating and developing for the military can be applied to commercial uses. ------------------------------------"The sound system penetrates even the noisiest areas " Can you begin to imagine how this feature along is so attractive for many type of commercial uses? How about noisy production and manufacturing plants across the world? The days of shouting to your co-workers working next to you is over! Or how about this... the days of shouting to your date or potential date at the nightclub, bars, roll & roll parties is over! :-) Of course, I'm assuming that a mini portable device will be available for this feat. Whoa! another application for HSS is discovered! <g>BIW plans to install speakers the size and weight of empty compact disc cases throughout an Aegis destroyer. "These are lightweight, easier to install, have no maintenance, are cheaper to buy and they have better performance," Winter said. Do you see the implication of the above two paragraphs? Installing speakers are no longer a pain in the @@@. Cutting and drilling holes on the walls are thing of the past. Moving and/or hanging heavy speakers are no longer necessary. What more can a guy/gal ask for? "Hey, hand me the putty (Fun-Tak), will ya? How about sticking the speaker over here? We can always change the position later if you don't like it." instead of...."Hey, can you help me move this *%^#$ speaker over here. Almost break my back last time moving this! What? You want it up there? How in the world am I going to hang this $#%# speaker up there?" Many of the technologies BIW is integrating and developing for the military can be applied to commercial uses. Commercial uses! This is why we are all here! Yes! Yes! and a big YES! I think I see a big wave coming our way, hang on to your surfboard! All in my opinion only! I am simply extrapolating what HSS can do for us. We have yet to see and hear for ourselves the potential of this technology! Good Luck to all longs! Cheers!
