Try this on for size:

1. American Express (www.americanexpress.com/blue) launches "Blue
Card"; their 1st Revolving credit card. This is a "Smart Card" with a
"Smart Card Reader". The reader is attached to the computer: cost is
less than $30.00.

2. The "Smart Card" system is manufactured by Gemplus SCA.

3. GemPlus SCA is a French firm. Founded in 1988, Gemplus is
recognized as one of the top 20 fastest growing entrepreneurial
companies in Europe (Source: Europe¡s 500), and has consolidated its
market leadership position worldwide.Gemplus S.C.A. is the world's
leading provider of plastic and smart card-based solutions (by units
sold, source: Dataquest 1998). Gemplus sells magnetic stripe cards,
memory and microprocessor-based smart cards, smart contactless cards,
electronic tags and smart objects. The company designs and markets
software, development tools and readers. Gemplus also provides

On this above link, scroll all the way to the bottom of the linked page
and notice the "GemWave" and "GemXpresso RAD". This are the result of
sub-licensing from Cyber-COMM. Cyber-COMM was licensed to give
sub-licensing by Wave Systems.

4. GemPlus SCA is licensed by the French agency Cyber-COMM.

5. Cyber-COMM(R) is a company led by Europe's largest banks whose
mandate is to find technology solutions to solve online consumer
security, trust and privacy issues. Under terms of the agreement,
Wave's EMBASSY technology will be included in the reference platform for
Cyber-COMM(R) enhanced smart card readers and PC keyboards. The
agreement also allows for Cyber-COMM(R) to sub-license Wave's EMBASSY
technology to third party vendors who will use it to develop "trusted
devices" for secure e-commerce.

Cyber-COMM(R) is an active participant of FINREAD, a European Commission
project that is issuing public specifications for a common secure smart
card reader for e-commerce. FINREAD members include VISA International,
EUROPAY International, Groupement des cartes Bancaires (the French
consortium for banking smart cards), SIZ (Germany), INTERPAY
(Netherlands), BANKSYS (Belgium), BULL and Cyber-COMM(R).

6. Cyber-COMM represents GemPlus SCA.

7. In 1992, IBM awards ISO 9002 accreditation to Gemplus.

8. Gemplus and IBM announced their intent to jointly develop smart card
products based on Java technology and to work together to further the
adoption of the JavaCard platform. As part of their cooperation, Gemplus
and IBM will combine existing smart card technology from each company to
create a full range of Java-based smart card solutions.

9. Gemplus announced its support for Smart Cards for Windows,
Microsoft's standards-based platform. Gemplus will work with Microsoft
as a partner to develop applications using the company's new operating
system and expects to license Smart Cards for Windows.

10. National Semiconductor (NYSE: NSM) develops Co-processor-based
Security Solutions for E-commerce with Wave Systems (NASDAQ: WAVX),
1999.

11. SARNOFF Corp. (www.sarnoff.com) enters agreement with Wave Systems
to form WaveXpress Joint Venture.

The supply circle is complete. With each swipe of the "Smart Card",
Wave Systems makes their cut of the swipe charge transaction that
is charged to the merchant. With Smart Cards deployed around the world
and now being fielded in the USA, this will add up to huge sums of
money.

American Express will begin the use of Smart Cards in the USA.
Smart Cards are made by GemPlus SCA.
GemPlus SCA has sub-licensing from Cyber-COMM(R) of France.
Wave Systems licensed their technology to Cyber-COMM.
Wave makes money in this turn-key arrangement.

12. Compaq computer has entered into an agreement with WAVX for SmartCard.
Compaq has listed on their site at:
compaq.com

at the bottom, about 10 lines up from Quickspecs (scroll to the very
bottom), the following:

Card Operating Standards:
OpenGroup Personal Computing SmartCard
(PCS) - Microsoft/Oracle
OpenGroup Opencard - IBM/SUN/Novell
OpenGroup JavaCard -
Sun/GemPlus/Schlumberger
MAOSCO Multos -
Gemplus/Seimans/Motorola/MasterCard/Mondex

NOTE THE references to GemPlus, IBM, Microsoft, MasterCard.

We are awaiting an announcement from Compaq on the use of the
SmartCard. They displayed it at COMDEX. They have entered into an
agreement with Wave. Wave will make their cut of each and every "swipe" of
the Smart Card.
