Well folks, I stated a few days ago my intention to get to the bottom of the issue of short interest. Reality set in and I know it is factually impossible to find out why. But a few thoughts anyway.

As listed below, AWRE is not being singled out. GSPN and WSTL have higher short interest.

As of FEB 8,

AWRE: Shares Short 3.25M
Percent of Float 23.8%

GSPN: Shares Short 2.42M
Percent of Float 26.0%

WSTL: Shares Short 7.59M
Percent of Float 48.3%

I did glance at the DSL service companies (COVD,RTHM) and it appears their group has a much lower short interest level.

I am now thinking this is just a blanket position by the market. Maybe they are betting short on the group without regard to individual company fundamentals. Maybe they are correct about GSPN and incorrect about AWRE. Maybe the are correct about the group and believe wireless and fiber-to-the-home is the future in the long term.

The wireless stocks as we all know and can see have made their moves. Too late for me to jump on board that train.

I'm going to stay in DSL and my pick continues to be AWRE. DSL IMO is here and now and will be here in the future to a great degree. When one looks at wireless and fiber players, AWRE is undervalued IMO.

Good luck to all!

You got it right. That's why I am in Oct calls. It may take time for investors to understand the aware story. I think DSL will pick up momentum this summer/fall. We also have DSLcon (spring & fall) and Supercomm 2000 in summer. Fiber is way out in the future for residential customers. Fixed wireless is possibly a threat there. I am betting that DSL would have made substantial inroads by the time wireless really picks up. With the substantial short interest when the stock starts moving up it will be a huge move. It may take a while for that to happen and the shorters are betting to make money in the mean while hoping to buy back from frustated longs. Patience is the key to making money here.
