Dogwood it is........lived down state Ill for quite a while.........the Shawnee National Forest is filled with dogwood........they enjoy living within the forest protected by the larger mixed hardwoods.....seeing these beauties blooms scattered within the woods is a True Gift.......live in N. Ca now...there is a western species...But not so common where I am........( the morel mushroom enjoys the same rich dark soils... and I used to hunt them with an eagerness that is hard to describe..).Sorely Missed Tim
