DJ Intel Eyes Japan Internet Software Devt Facility - Nikkei

Dow Jones News Service ~ March 11, 2000 ~ 10:06 am EST

TOKYO (Nikkei)--Intel Corp. (INTC) will set up a facility in Japan this year to support the development of software programs for advanced Internet applications, executive vice president and general manager of the Intel Architecture Business Group Paul Otellini has said.

In February, Intel announced the launch of a new operation based on "the third generation of Internet Business." In the first generation, companies placed information on the Web and in the second, online ordering emerged.

In the third generation, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun reports in its Sunday edition, internet businesses will focus on simplifying customer requests for information by integrating wide-ranging content sources, Otellini said.

Car buyers in the future, for example, will receive a package of information detailing vehicle prices, loan interest rates and auto insurance costs, and will no longer need to search for related data separately.

Intel's e-business solution center in Japan will be installed with highly efficient computer servers that will help software developers make Internet programs, while receiving technical support.

Intel will open similar facilities in about 30 countries and regions of the world, including China, Otellini said.

RE: "The droids were dancing in the streets on Thursday night when they thought X-Box was in the bag"

Yeah, aren't they some group? Did you happen to see Jerry SLanders on CNN's Moneyline last night? What is to stop Intel from suing that pompous jackass for making accusations of illegal practices towards Intel?

SLanders sure has some cajones.
