Arnold, that same question can be asked for any company. There is no indication the BOD would do anything detrimental to the company, especially after what they learned from the acquisition of USX. Actually, the company's behavior in he latter three quarters is indicative of the opposite to your question. They just recently cancelled a $200 million JV with Seimens and they have been incredibly tight with their operations and expenditures. This is manifested in their quarterly reports, their cash position and investments have grown to over $7 billion just in the last 3 quarters.

When 3Com fell to $20 in April of 99 they were a totally different company. They did have the current hoard of cash and the Palm spin-off was not even part of their strategy. The Palm's success was nowhere near where it is today.
