Thanks for the heads up mark.. I just updated NAV.

The 2000 version came with the 'puter and it says e-mail protection and configure right on the Start Menu.

Hi Mark,

There is a VERY large security hole with the email protection provided by Norton AV 2000, or SystemWorks 2000. They issued a patch for it (which didn't do a thing), then issued another one that fixed it for good.

I still don't like their email protection, and choose to scan things individually. That said, it's getting easier for viruses to be passed on through scripting in the email itself, so just viewing the email can be a potential hazard.

For firewalls, I know a lot of people that use BlackICE and like it a lot, as well as Zone Alarm (free I think). I got a copy of Norton's security firewall product this week... No time to play with it yet, but have heard good things. Personally, I use custom-made scripts and a hardware firewall. Costly, but VERY effective.

Rich

Dell stuff ...

A tiny, back-page article in Friday's paper said Dell is recalling memory modules for 400,000 computers built between Feb 1999 and (I forgot!).

Anyway, go to the Dell page and see if your system's on the list. Download a program which checks to see if your sytem needs the replacement parts. If so, visit the page and let them know so they can help.

Dell is sending the appropriate customers a letter.

Evidently, the symptoms are freezing on suspend/resume, Blue Screen of Death, and (I forgot! AGAIN!)

Hope this helps, PW.

P.S. To hell with the computer, I need a new memory.

P.P.S. Dell has made a new BIOS flash available for Isspirons, Version 15, dated March 10th, 2000.
