Is it possible that G* is just waiting for the official announcement of I* service termination to offer a special phone trade-in deal? A lot of the players in the sat business know each other. A move to steal away I*'s customers when they are making a last ditch effort to salvage the company would perhaps be viewed as piling on.

Two news articles

Other convertible securities in Jacoy's portfolio include Loral Space and Communications (NYSE: LOR - news). ``We own the 6% perpetual preferred. Loral designs and manufactures satellites, both for geosynchronous and low earth orbit. They own 42% of Globalstar Telecommunications (Nasdaq: GSTRF - news). Globalstar just went operational in January, providing a worldwide network for cellular phones. One of the key features of Globalstar is that all the players involved are all equity partners, from AirTouch (NYSE: VOD - news) in the United States, to China Telecom (NYSE: CHL - news) in China. They all have a stake in the company,' Jacoy declares.

In satellite communications, Peery highlights Globalstar Telecommunications (Nasdaq: GSTRF - news): ``They are providing worldwide extended cellular coverage. If you are in an area where you don't have cellular service or can't receive a cellular signal, their satellite system will allow you to receive a signal there. That's going to be a huge market opportunity for Globalstar, in terms of profitability and customers. Loral (NYSE: LOR - news) is also an interesting way to invest in Globalstar, through its 45% ownership. It also has attractive data satellite initiatives it is pursuing.'
