Gary, I would argue that msft has been far more successful than any innovative company. If they haven't been innovative, then they have purchased the innovative company. What's the difference for a shareholder? None.

In theory, one can feel better if they innovate a product. A software engineer may feel good, but a shareholder doesn't care how the company creates value, as long as it ethical and legal. (But that's another issue.)

yes it is VERY off topic there must be another place (in which I would not be interested at all, being a MSFT hater) where you can vent all the s... about MSFT. Btw I happen to agree on the copycat pirating behaviour etc but one must not underestimate marketing against technology EVER. Give them due where it is deserved.

Geekdude,

I only got to the first few sentences and then stopped reading. I never said Microsoft was an innovator. In what post did I elude to such a misnomer because quite to the contrary - I would argue - like you - that Microsoft is simply an imitator. This however has no bearing whatsoever on Microsoft's ability, or not, to capitalize on the market for handhelds and small footprint devices with CE derivates or embedded NT. Nuf said. I'm happy to let this one rest and come back in a couple of years. I just wanted to set the record straight in that I don't believe I ever positioned Microsoft as an innovator. For what it's worth I wouldn't position 3Com there either.
