Intel can't afford to do the price squeeze thing on them like they used to. This is because they no longer control the high margin high end.

I see your point, but respectfully disagree. A huge portion of Intel's revenues going out into the future are based on Xeon server sales. The X-box thing is just to hurt AMD. Had Intel beaten AMD to 1 GHz, they probably would have been happy to let AMD slide back into their second rate status as X-box providers.

The general consensus is that Intel undercut AMD on price for the X-box contract (BTW, I have NO IDEA if this is true or not).

You say Intel can't afford to do that anymore....

Something is dichotomous here.

Anyway, I think I understand where you are coming from. I may not be as optimistic as you that Intel won't swing the price ax if it perceives it has to. It hasn't really come to that yet though, and hopefully it won't, for the sake of both AMD and Intel.
