spiral and unclewest

I asked my Trane rep what exactly is it that you put into your equipment that is Lon. He said that it isn't necessarily a chip, that he wasn't sure but he thinks somehow that Lon logic is put into their circuit boards.
I would imagine though that items such as sensors, light switches and such which do not contain circuit boards would have to have the neuron chip. But items such as A/C units which already have circuit boards with some sort of processor on it would not require the neuron chip.

unclewest you are correct that every node(device) requires it's own unique ID#. This is how the central conjtroller knows what is communicating with it.

What I was trying to point out is that the protocol may be ported to any chip, it is not exclusive to the neuron chip. To the best of my knowledge this has not yet been done which is perhaps the reason for the wording in the slide you have. So for now the words 'neuron chip' and 'node' can be used interchangeably, but this may not be the case as the technology is developed further by the chipmakers.

thank you. my headache just went away.
please let us know if you see an example of the latter in the future.

By constructing the model around the node, rather than the chip, they appear to be covering themselves for all LNS operating system implementations, whether based on the neuron chip or not.

in your thinking..does this give elon the $400 for the server in all applications where used, but not necessarily the $0.15 for every chip(node) used in a system?

in other words...there may be chips controlling devices in a system that will not have an id# ?
