I don't necessarily disagree with you... but I want to play a little "devil's advocate" here...

Can you be more explicit in your explanation? Do you think it's a matter of keeping the HW up with SW requirements?

Yep.

X-BOX, by going with a general purpose, x86 CPU, can ride the coattails of the mass market, high performance PC engine, and rake in all the speed benefits from the AMD-Intel GigaHertz Race.

Maybe the dark horse - Microsoft - will emerge as a winner, after all.
