SST Inks Licensing Deal With Intel!! I believe this news came out after the market closed ...we might see a nice pop monday morn.SST Inks Licensing Deal With Intel for Firmware Hub Flash Memory SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 17, 2000-- Deal Makes SST First Intel Licensee to Implement the Firmware Hub Products for Intel's 800 Series Hub Architecture Chipsets SST (Silicon Storage Technology, Inc.)(Nasdaq:SSTI) today announced that the company has amended its cross-licensing agreement with Intel Corporation. Under the terms of the amendment, SST is licensed to supply flash memory products compatible with Intel's 800 Series Hub Architecture chipsets. Also, Intel agrees to provide SST information pertaining to Intel's 82802 Firmware Hub interface . SST's SuperFlash(R)-based Firmware Hub products, also announced today(1), incorporate the proprietary FWH interface protocol owned by Intel and are read-compatible as well as pin-to-pin compatible to the Intel 82802 Firmware Hub product. The Intel 82802 Firmware Hub is a member of Intel's 800 Series (810, 810e, 820 and 840) Hub Architecture chipsets, which optimize the performance of computer systems based on Intel's microprocessors. By incorporating the Intel Hub Architecture, SST's new application-specific flash memory products are designed to complement Intel's 82801 chip, also known as the I/O Controller Hub (ICH), and other Hub devices in the Intel 800 Series Hub Architecture chipsets. "We are pleased to become a component provider to support Intel Hub Architecture-based computer systems," said Bing Yeh, president and CEO of SST. "Although we have always been a strong participant in the personal computer BIOS market, this new agreement with Intel and our anticipated ability to deliver volume products through our world-class manufacturing partners will create a new opportunity for SST products -- one that will help us achieve our long-term corporate objectives." "The goal of this agreement with SST is to speed the delivery of low-cost flash solutions for the Internet computing market," said Gidu Shroff, vice president for Intel's Technology & Manufacturing Group. "We hope that collaborating with SST to provide Firmware Hub devices for Intel 800 Series Hub Architecture chipsets will allow developers of Intel microprocessor-based systems to bring designs to market quickly and cost effectively." About SuperFlash Technology SST's SuperFlash technology is a NOR type, split-gate cell architecture which uses a reliable thick-oxide process with fewer manufacturing steps resulting in a low-cost, nonvolatile memory solution with excellent data retention and higher reliability. The split-gate NOR SuperFlash architecture facilitates a simple and flexible design suitable for high performance, high reliability, small or medium sector size, in- or off-system programming and a variety of densities, all in a single CMOS-compatible technology. About Silicon Storage Technology, Inc. Headquartered in Sunnyvale, California, SST designs, manufactures and markets a diversified range of nonvolatile memory solutions, based on proprietary, patented SuperFlash technology, for high volume applications in the digital consumer, networking, wireless communication and Internet computing markets. SST's product families include high-functionality flash memory components, CompactFlash card mass storage products and 8-bit microcontrollers with on-chip flash memory. SST also offers its SuperFlash technology for embedded applications through its world-class manufacturing partners and technology licensees IBM, Motorola, Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., SANYO Electric Co., Ltd., Seiko Epson Corp., TSMC-Acer Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TASMC) and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd. (TSMC).
