deibutfeif, If Intel was forced to accept whatever AMD offered as the only way to get second sourcing, well that was a cost they undertook in the hopes they would get something they could profit from....well they did not and it made no difference as AMD was subsequently forced out of Intel based products into it's own based products and has fought a stern chase very successfully. AMD is now at the point of technical parity, but is far smaller economically and it must make as much hay as possible over the next two years to keep the lead/parity and expand the economic base of the company. In a way the cost of the xbox cpu will be so low that they may indeed be better off without it. Only a retrospective analysis of this will really tell if this is true or fales. For now AMD has far more profitable boards to place the AThlon on, and that venue is not yet closed.

Re: "Good post, though I remember in the mid-80's (as a low-level Intel employee) that there was a lot of dissatisfaction with what design(s) AMD was offering in exchange for Intel design(s). I guess as the value of the respective products got too out of balance, AMD just didn't have anything with which to catch up. As you say - moot."

Moot? Not to Jerry. He still sees himself as "Victim" after Intel cut off his welfare check.
