with RDRAM, all things are not equal, because it is more practicable to connect the memory directly to the CPU, especially when wide bandwidth is required.

MediaGX has had a direct connection to SDRAM for many years now. When the cost of RDRAM reaches parity with SDRAM, it will be a cost effective solution for Timna type solutions, but for the present SDRAM makes more sense in low cost platforms.

At the present time, RDRAM only makes sense for systems which require high bandwidth, like PS2.
