Bruce: Thanks. One of the keys to the use of "phones" as access to the internet and then to banking and many other possibilities is the need for security.

The smart card (SIM or equivalent) is important as a step toward using the phone or other handset as a small compact computer for access to many diverse applications - with enhanced personal security (embedded in the card itself - and added to over time).

Right now this is a feature GSM has, and CDMA does not have.

And just to permit roaming, SIM's could help.

So this is an area worth following for progress IMO.
