Just don't want to let the notion that, as a corporation, Intel was some fabulous innovator while AMD was no more than a second source shop go unchallenged.

Intel has been far more successful, but much of the credit for that should go to IBM, which probably selected it after judging Intel to be inferior to its competition.

AMD's recent success didn't come out of nowhere (and Intel's performance in recent years has been magnificent - but it's a lot easier after someone gives you a big head start)
