so post the /link command output next time you have a problem at open

and try this:

please also launch windows resource meter, and report the 3 values it lists.

also, go here: computingcentral.com during market hours - test your isp connection - try 4,5 times during day, report results.

then crtl-alt-delete once - write down all running tasks - post that list plz.

thats a start. i'll have more questions once we see the answers to these items.

also, having a dsl, t1, or similar high band width modem that works well on browsers, downloads, etc doesnt mean it will work well on data using tcp/ip push technology - so - try the items i posted above and we'll go from there. there are some tcp/ip config tuning parms we can tweak in the registry that have dramatic impacts on high band width connections - but lets start with the above and try and isolate your lockup/slowdown problems. i'm not seeing them on my systems (#1 - t1, k7, 700 ; #2 dial up k6, 500, 44kb link ; #3 p2 300, dial up 26,400 link) - i simply dont see the lockup at open probems you report.

lets try and figure it out together, without the adversial relationship ok?

one more test - next time you have probs like this - shut down the dsl - and dial to 'net using dial up modem - see how it behaves on dial up.
