Ashanti - does anyone know where things stand in the bidding for 50% of Geita? Timetable? It's been my impression that the bidding was closed some time ago. I heard (rumour)there were at least five bidders - among them Barrick, Placer, Anglo, Newmont.

I wonder if some of the bidders won't present an alternative bid for 100% of Geita - and offer a premium for same? Certainly a condition of any bid would be to be operator of the mine I should think. And if ASL continues to be a weak sister the bidder would at least impose conditions to take over the whole thing on a default?
