Create alternative energy? Like we would'nt try if we could with oil at $23 as compared to $30? That is damn argument....

Goldsnow,

I wouldn't count alternative energy out quite yet. You only have to look at the breakthroughs that are being made with regard to Gas-to-Liquids, or fuel cells (BLRD being a currect hot play and have raised $500 million in VC $$$).

GTL technology is getting down to the point where it is cost effective in a $20/barrel market.

As for disinflation caused by OPEC... when their average cost of production is $12/barrel, you can hardly call a 100-150% markup a justifiable solution. Certainly not when every other industry is facing increasing competition from more productive operations.

It seems that most of you folks out here are die-hard patriotic capitalists. What is so wrong with more productive energy producers capturing more market share?

The bottom line is as I predicted in previous posts, it is not in the interest of OPEC for oil prices to surge as it encourages cheating and alternative energy production. Iran showed that they finally understood the issue (probably under some pressure from the Saudis) by agreeing last week that oil prices were too high.

OPEC will eventually cut its own throat. It's membership with fight a squabble from within as they once again seek market share increases.

Regards,

Ron

While there are pockets of extreme price increase within our economy, there remain many indications of deflation or, at best, an extended bottom.

We find with ease reports which show real estate prices in many of the top markets at all time highs with every passing day bringing another top.

I suspect, were an overall average of all real estate prices viewed, there would be only a 1-5% increase.

With a few moments of reserch, here are examples of real estate prices ranging from those seen in late 60's to the late 70's:
