I'm not sure whether you mean by "Maybe this is what Bush knew" that he threw his prestige behind them for money because they are a good organization (in your view), or because it was worth it because they are on the decline in the U.S. I think that the road you are going down is to make it okay that pere shilled for the Moonies because the Moonies have these welfare adjuncts to their essentially sordid and sinister main effort?

You know what? There is no reason not to simply say, "Pere had a weak moment. Maybe he was ignorant of the degree of evil represented by the Moonies. I think if he'd known, he wouldn't have done what he did."

But instead you seem intent on rehabilitating the Moonies.
