An initial public offering for CMGI's (CMGI: news, msgs) AltaVista search engine is not likely before April. CMGI chairman David Wertherell cited "some administrative delays" at the Securities and Exchange Commission, according to Reuters. The offering had been expected this month. The stock will be listed on Nasdaq with the symbol ALTA.

E-tailer Mercata filed its intention for a $100 million initial public stock offering. The company operates a Web site which sells products by a reverse auction method, in which the price falls as more people offer to buy listed items.
