Analog Devices to Power Mass Deployment of ADSL in Korea
-Korea Telecom selects Samsung Electronics as provider of the second project of its 1 million ADSL line deployment by year end.
NORWOOD, Mass., March 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Analog Devices, Inc (NYSE: ADI - news) announced today that its leading ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) chipset solutions are enabling the world's largest deployment of ADSL. With Korea Telecom's recent selection of Samsung Electronics' ADSL AceLink? system, 155,000 ADSL lines will be deployed in Korea by mid-2000. ADI's AD20msp918 chipset is at the heart of Samsung's ADSL AceLink(TM) system. This selection represents the second installment of Korea Telecom's plan to deploy over 1 million ADSL lines by year 2000. The first deployment of Korea Telecom's 90,000 ADSL lines was also powered by ADI's ADSL chipsets.

This agreement represents an even greater proliferation of ADI's ADSL chipsets being deployed worldwide. Currently, ADI's ADSL chipsets are powering eight out of the world's top ten PSTNs (Public Switched Telephone Networks). Analog Devices is the only independent ADSL chipset vendor to have already shipped to the open market in excess of 1 million ADSL chipsets to date in North America, Europe and Asia. Korea Telecom is undertaking the world's largest deployment of ADSL and this deployment of Samsung's AceLink system represents an additional 310,000 ADI chipsets to be installed by mid- 2000 at both the Central Office (CO) and Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) ends of the lines. Samsung is a key partner in ADI's client ADSL deployment strategy with current designs based on ADI's AD918 chipset moving to next generation AD930 designs. Analog Devices has already supplied well over one million chipsets worldwide, making it the leading independent provider of broadband Internet solutions.

``Korea Telecom's selection of Samsung's AceLink ADSL system demonstrates that Analog Devices' ADSL technology continues to be recognized as the most dependable and interoperable foundation for the world's largest deployments and most complex configurations of ADSL,' said Russ Johnsen, vice president and general manager, Communications Products Division, Analog Devices.

Through ADI's multi-standard, flexible ADSL chipset, Samsung's AceLink ADSL system will allow Korea Telecom to provide both residents and businesses the capability to enjoy a multitude of communications options, ranging from advanced broadband data access to basic telephone and fax services.
