Expanded Microsoft Partner Solution Center Features EMC E-Infostructure
EMC, Microsoft and Other Technology Leaders To Build and Showcase Joint Customer Networking Solutions at New Facility
REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 13, 2000-- EMC Corporation today announced its leading enterprise storage systems and software have been selected as the core storage platform for the newly expanded Microsoft Partner Solution Center (MPSC). The expanded center, which opened today, provides Microsoft, EMC and other companies with a state-of-the-art facility for developing and showcasing a wide range of solutions targeted at the networking market, including those for Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and wireless communication providers. The MPSC brings the expertise of a variety of Microsoft partners together in a single facility to rapidly develop and market end-to-end solutions based on leading technologies from each company.

EMC has been designated as a Core Services Provider in the MPSC Data Center and will provide an EMC information infrastructure - the E-Infostructure - that will support more than 17 labs in the center. An EMC E-Infostructure enables users to consolidate information from many servers and applications for improved information management, protection and sharing.

The center will utilize:

Five EMC Symmetrix Enterprise Storage systems, providing 17 terabytes of storage capacity.
An EMC Connectrix Enterprise Storage Network system to facilitate connection of multiple Windows NT and Windows 2000 servers into the Symmetrix systems.
An EMC Celerra Network File Server system with the capability to build large network- and storage-intensive solutions for applications such as media streaming and broadband.
An EMC Data Manager (EDM) system to provide fast, online backup of the data center.
A full complement of EMC's leading information management, sharing and protection software, including EMC Symmetrix Remote Data Facility (SRDF), EMC TimeFinder, EMC PowerPath, EMC ControlCenter and Volume Logix.
``In today's networking and communications marketplace, customers require the highest levels of information availability and performance,' said Fredrik Winsnes, Director, Network Solutions Group, Microsoft. ``The MPSC will provide a venue for a variety of companies, like EMC, to work with Microsoft and others to develop end-to-end solutions that provide those levels of availability and performance for a whole new range of network services.'

The expanded facility, located on Microsoft's Redmond, Washington campus, includes a load-generation lab, expanded workshop capacity, new network services and specialty training rooms. The MPSC also enables EMC and others to run ``live' pilots and customer tests onsite.

Frank Farese, EMC's Vice President of Global Alliances, said, ``Both Microsoft and EMC are working together to create highly integrated solutions that provide networking customers with the reliability and scalability required to rapidly deploy mission-critical applications. Through this center, we will be able to expand our market opportunities with specific programs in the networking space. This facility gives us the perfect venue to work with Microsoft and other leading vendors in this area to develop these solutions, certify their performance capabilities and market them to our mutual customers.'

EMC and Microsoft formed a strategic global alliance in February, the first centered specifically on Windows 2000. The two companies are working together in a number of areas to develop and implement solutions that combine Windows 2000 with EMC systems, software and services.

EMC Corporation, a Fortune 500 company based in Hopkinton, Massachusetts, is the world's technology and market leader in the rapidly growing market for intelligent enterprise storage systems, software, networks and services. The company's products store, retrieve, manage, protect and share information from all major computing environments, including Unix, Windows NT, Linux and mainframe platforms. The company has offices worldwide, trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol EMC, and is a component of the S&P 500 Index.
