SANTA CLARA, Calif. (CBS.MW) -- Aiming to extend its reach in the lucrative world of online financial information, Yahoo unveiled a Web-based multimedia network Monday that will do its own multimedia productions to take the portal powerhouse beyond its traditional role as an aggregator of third-party content.

Dubbed the FinanceVision network, which has been in development since last October, the service allows users to listen to analysts' live morning calls, receive market updates from the Nasdaq and other stock markets, check out features on companies, and obtain personal finance and money management tips from third parties.

FinanceVision will also feature some of its own content produced by an in-house editorial staff. Eric Scholl, a former executive producer of CNNfn, will lead production and development, Yahoo said.

"The launch of Yahoo FinanceVision is an evolutionary step in distributing the aggregated content and information we have been successful in providing to our users," said Chief Operating Officer Jeff Mallett said in a statement.

Shares of Yahoo (YHOO: news, msgs) rose 1 1/16 to 179 1/8 in recent action.

The Santa Clara, Calif.-based company has teamed up with other content providers, including TheStreet.com (TSCM: news, msgs), Forbes.com, Business Week and MarketWatch.com (MKTW: news, msgs), the publisher of this report.

The live video portion of FinanceVision will be streamed eight hours a day from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Pacific time on weekdays.
