Hi Steven, glad things worked out as well as one could hope under the circumstances with your son yesterday.

Funny about the jellyfish. But being in a bathing suit didn't help me much at Ocean City Maryland in my youth! Ouch! :-)

Why would anybody want to wear a swimsuit while swimming if they had a choice and had experienced the alternative?

Anyone who has brushed up against a jellyfish can answer that question.

I spent some time in my youth at events where nudity was the norm, and I can confirm that when everyone is nude, the sexual excitement of nudity vanishes completely. We adjust very quickly to new norms.

Thank you, Steven, for the real-life contribution. From my observation, people do adjust to new norms surprisingly quickly if they allow themselves to do so. The first time I saw a woman sunbathing bare breasted and wearing a thong in Martinique, I was a bit taken aback. By the third day, my only reaction was, hasn't she ever thought about skin cancer?

Her body was stunningly beautiful, but by the third day I and my lover noticed it the way we'd normally notice her face if she were fully clothed. Her behavior and body language were not sexually provocative so the impact of her partial nudity ceased to have effect.

O.K., a jellyfish can provide a miserable experience. I've been lucky enough to see them in the water and let them drift past me.

However, anyone who has had the pure misery of sand trapped in the elastic of a bathing suit and abrading the skin longs to swim naked.
