Thank you for your man (techie) on the street views.
I had no idea hard drives had dropped to $109. And for
a 15 gigabyte drive. To put that price / capacity combo
into perspective, when I began working in the computer
industry in 1979, a 50 pound hard drive unit costs over
$5,000 yet held 640 kilobytes. It was connected to the
IBM 370/40 VSE CPU with an additional $100 of cables.
The whole shooting
match of CPU, printers, card readers, disk drives,
tape drives was housed in an air conditioned computer
room requiring limited access to keep the public out.

WHOA!!

Things have really changed.

I will continue to hold my HDD as long as mgmt maintains
it vision of creating hard drives for the new digital juke box,
set top box, personal video recorder (TIVO), and other
new appliances. Let's not forget the Fireball family of
"quiet" disk drives continues to sell AND remember HDD's
operations are profitable while WDC and MXTR need more
time to turnaround operations. SEG is another case
because of its investments is Veritas and other startups.
Hold the hard drive companies for the next 2 years and
you will be bank a profit.
