I would think that they lowered it to 50 to assure as many allocations as possible -- should the need arise. I doubt if anybody will get 500 through the DSP. Only if half of us sleep through the process.

If they put it there I would think that it's true. They may use a formula or ratio depending on the number of shares you got. This is just pure speculation on my part though. How else can someone get 500 shares?
