Could this be the reason why JDSU has been weak lately? Any comments?

I just received notice over the week-end that Datek has decided to make both JDSU and ETEK non-marginable.

I didn't receive any notice.

Customers do not need to sell their margined shares, but they cannot buy new shares on margin.

This morning, I thought I'd get a huge margin call. So I called up, a gal over there told me a number I need to maintain overthere, it was calculated as everything is marginable. I think they just want to prevent people from buying.

etrade limits maintenance margin to 50 per cent on CMGI for me, but I am very concentrated in CMGI in that account.

John,

I have been saying this for months. Yes, brokerages are doing this. Fidelity is, among others. The head of the NAZ, Frank Zarb, has been on TV saying that this has been discussed and houses have been asked to review and raise the margin on some of the most volatile stocks.

While the Federal requirements are 30%, brokerage houses can raise their requirements (irrespective of the 30% value) to (as you've seen...) 100% if they feel their capital is at risk.

I know that DLJDirect does not allow margin for ETEK. So far they allow margin for JDSU and SDLI.
