Going by memory...roughly, he said that the right to revolution was inherent in the concept of democracy, and thus the right (indeed the duty) to bear arms. Permitting all power (weapons) to be concentrated in the hands of the few is an invitation to the dark side of human nature, and an abrogation of ones right to be free... By recognizing the bearing of arms as a right, the danger of tyranny was considerably lessened. This is the large view. The horrific fact that humans kill one another in whatever manner is available to them--that is a separate issue, and a sad one...
