You're just beating a dead horse. It's clear that a series to which only downward revisions and price substitution strategies are applied is a joke. They don't even use the CPI when indexing the ceiling on Social Security taxes. Last year, the ceiling rose over 6% to $ 72,600. They impose the phony CPI when indexing the tax brackets on the income tax rates and on government benefits. There's no real fiscal restraint on the part of government and on discretionary spending by government, in particular.

Good points. Statistics if properly used can be extremely useful in testing hypotheses and theories. How else were some of the physical "laws" and their limitations verified ?

Surely the web seems to increase productivity in all aspects including manufacturing information trash at a fast turnaround times with little formal research to back it up.
At least in this aspect lots of "computing power" on the web is being used for questionable end use, such as this article for example :-) But can be justified based on entertainment value it serves, I guess !
