This technology doesn't really do anything that hasn't already been done on X-band save ramp up the f(0) so you can carry greater data rates. X-band is mainly line of sight, but with decent ECC can be used in multipath environments. And yes optical should be able to carry 100Gbs on a terahertz f(0). Do the math.

But what nobody has said is what does TeraBeam bring to the party? Where's the franchise that Joe Blow with a laser beam can't duplicate? Where's the IP?

Laser-not
High power laser-not
Modulation-not
Detection-really doubtful
Manufacturing-oh oh getting desperate

Dealing with weather based path attenuation would seem to be the issue du jour. Maybe neutrinos.
