Hi Paul,
I knew that my scathing comment would arouse comment.
Don`t misunderstand me. I have great respect for both MSFT and INTC, but I consider their marketing to press organs to be unprofessional.
"How did Microsoft get to be the largest Software manufacturer on this planet ?"
In the early days, they had a product for which their was a need. They satiated this need excellently. The story is well known. But in latter years rather than market their products on their merits, they have gained market share by means which have been considered bad business practice. The list of legal battles is impressive.
INTC is very similar. Without doubt they are market leaders, but have their position by attrition. How would the future look without AMD? How would the world look if some of the others were not scared off 15 years ago?
As for marketing and press, one can hardly consider the way they handled the long delayed introduction of the 820/840 professional.

Alan
PS : how did I do on spelling today?
PPS : Unless it is at the beginning of a sentence, "software" is spelt with a small s.
