I don't think investors really understand the situation regarding making information available free. What will be made available is the MAP of the Human Genome. Then what various companies do with this information will be THEIR PROPRIETARY INFORMATION that they will patent. It's sort of like all of us having access to the same company data for stocks, but we all won't get rich just because we have it. It will depend on how we USE the data. Companies will use the Human Genome info in various ways to come up with cures for disease, etc., and that is proprietary information that they'll be able to patent. We're just at the beginning of this new technology. Genome stocks should do very well in years to come as cures or ways to prevent disease are found.

Someone tell me if they see it any other way.

P.S. Pass me a panda -- I need something "sane" to hold onto today. sandiegozoo.org

chip,

i haven't seen the clinton speech either. i think market was just looking for a reason to sell...and once the selling started,,,it was a mass exodus for the gates.

i think this is just another evidence of a momentum driven market and one that is teetering on edge.

as far as the future is concerned...most of the major players in this sector will be very profitable and do very well,,,and since we remain a capitalistic society...money and profits do drive the engine for growth and advancement...and it's still the best model for advancement.

i think the market has been bitten by biotech disasters before, it is probably a bit leery..and it's difficult to value these companies...

so,,will the investors come back? my guess is yes...the recent secondary offerings by CRA and INCY suggest that there is alot of support out there for this sector. i personally will creep back into this sector a little at a time...my main concern is not so much this sector, but the whole freaking market mania.
