I just checked out the Rocket e-book pro on bn.com and loved the customer reviews, especially this one (especially the last line).... Robert Canipe (seldon@twave.net), a bookseller from Hickory NC, February 17, 2000, AMAZING LITTLE MACHINE! THE FUTURE? I have had this amazing little machine in my possession only 24 hours and I have been completely smitten by it. I ordered the Pro and the extra memory is well worth the extra few dollars. This is truly the future of the book business. A perfect example is today, in History class, our professor suggested we read a book by W.E.B. Du Bois called 'The Souls Of Black Folk.' While I was on the Rocket e-book website, I noticed a Public Domain version of this work and downloaded it easily into my eBook. In jusy a very few minutes, I was reading this wonderful work. Thsi made me realize that no matter what time of day or night, day of the week, a book is no further away than a quick download! Let's imagine its Sunday afternoon, nothings on the tube, and it is raining out, I mean really pouring. John Grisham has a new book out and you want to read it, but the trip to the store bums you out, or maybe where you live the stores aren't open on Sundays. Well, folks, log onto a retailer selling eBooks and in a few clicks, a credit card transaction or two and you are READING THE NEW GRISHAM and you have not left the warmth of your abode! The screen is quite large by the standards set forth by most Palm Pilots and the backlighting is a wonderful addition enabling the reader to read in the darkness of an automobile (not while driving!), while your significant other sleeps beside you or when the light bulbs are all burned out in the bathroom. The ease of the programming and downloading are also a plus with this system. I had no problem loading books into my machine and once they are there the easy to follow directions had me reading, underlining, noting and bookmarking in a matter of minutes. In summation, this is a terrific little machine that I feel is the tip of the iceberg. I foresee the day when I can carry a 2000 volume library around with me, tucked safely inside my briefcase awaiting my perusal. Buy one and buy it now. You will not regret it. A note to the manufacturer and to the sellers of the software: keep these things affordable, especially the books. This will ensure that people will try them and make them household words. The large amount of public domain titles coupled with the same discounts on an eBook for the paper version of the same book would be a welcome thing. OK folks, where do I invest in this thing? I smell big money!
